Being Ourself
"Whether we recognize it or not, we are all parts of one whole interacting
with itself, or more accurately, with Ourself."

Have you ever had a
moment where you were
aware of your thinking,
your body, and your
surroundings
simultaneously as one
whole?  This state of
oneness, mindfulness, or
spiritual awareness is
much more than a
pleasant experience as an
individual; it is an
awakening to our most
fundamental identity,
reality itself.  When we
cease saying, "
I had an
unusual spiritual
experience of oneness,"
and the unusual
experiences instead
become those moments
when we are
not aware of
ourselves as Ourself, we
find that our lives begin to
synchronize and
harmonize with other
people and the natural
world in vastly richer
ways.  This is the true
meaning of "getting a life."
"Grammatically speaking, 'our'
is supposed to be followed by
the plural 'selves' because the
English language presumes
that 'our' as a possessive
adjective refers to ownership
by a group of
intrinsically
separate
individuals.  Though
we appear separate as we
move about with seeming
independence, a more
comprehensive look reveals
that all creatures and objects
are like the teeth of a comb
which appear separate along
one side, but can clearly be
seen to be different parts of
the same one thing when
viewed as a whole."

book's introduction
Quotes from Being Ourself
"Nuggets of supposed wisdom are like arrows-- any arrow of truth that
is shot from a bow rises, has a brief moment of glory, and then falls to
the ground. This is why no matter how many wise quotes we gather on
our refrigerators we are still confronted every day by new challenges
and complexities which require us to rise above and beyond the
territory of the known, which is of the past, and to engage in silent
communion with the living whole being that we are all part of, Ourself,
in the present, as we struggle to genuinely understand and move
forward."
-from chapter six, Ourself in Relationship with Ourself

"Life is not always nice, and it is absurd for any of us to preach to
others-- especially in the face of tragedy and personal suffering-- such
catch phrases as, "there are no accidents," "everything happens for a
reason," or "everything that happens to us we attract to ourselves."
Whether or not there is an obvious thread of truth in such statements,
it is clearly a very incomplete thread that we need to understand both
the place of, and limits of, through the eyes of Ourself."
-from chapter six, Ourself in Relationship with Ourself

"The ordinary appears extraordinary when you tune in to the
fundamental quality of Ourself that exists within everything. Do you
remember the first time you rode a bike without training wheels, and
were really able to do it? That grand sense of freedom and exhilaration
doesn't need to be a lost moment from childhood-- when you are being
Ourself, any activity you do takes on that amazing feeling."
-from chapter two, Being Ourself

"What if the fruit of our labor turns out to be apples when we thought
we were growing pears? Sometimes we have to follow in hot pursuit of
one desire so that a different manifestation of Ourself can come into
being."
-from chapter four, Manifesting Ourself
ENDORSEMENTS AND REVIEWS:
“The indigenous community recognizes that the collective and the individual move together, in a dance of interdependence, as essential elements in the
‘whole’ of community. Each of us is a thread in the garment of ‘Ourself’; our survival may well depend on our hearing this message from the world of spirit.”
Malidoma P. Somé, Phd, African elder, leader in the men's movement, and author of Of Water and the Spirit and The Healing Wisdom of Africa.
"Being Ourself takes you on a journey into the heart and soul of human existence. It is about finding yourself in Ourself and finding Ourself in yourself. Life
comes through us, and not, from us. The sooner we realize this notion residing within us and all around us, the sooner we can all Be Ourself. Thanks Ty
Clement for helping us to remember who we really are." Sam Oliver, Hospice Chaplain, and author of What the Dying Teach Us: Lessons on Living (a
Doubleday Book Club selection) and The Path Into Healing.
"This book spoke to me very clearly about the awakening of the evolution of consciousness which I believe is happening on the planet." Elmira Ingersoll, 98
year old spiritual elder and co-director of the spiritual retreat Harmony House in Lyme, Connecticut
